Relieve Back Pain Naturally

Back pain is all-encompassing. When your back hurts, EVERYTHING hurts.  Even minor movements can be challenging and painful.  It can even hurt to breathe…which is somewhat problematic as not breathing is not optional, right?  Ouch!

So, is there any natural relief for back pain?

Yes, there are some natural and very simple ways to help with back pain.

Gentle stretching, hot and cold therapy, soaking in a hot tub, to name a few! (Did you expect us not to include a hot tub soak session?)

But, as always, we recommend a visit to your physician first, before you begin any lifestyle changes. Be honest with your doctor about your pain so you can discuss effective options for relief.

Below are five natural ways to relieve back pain.

Diet.

You’ve heard it all before… eat healthy foods, more greens, less sugar, blah, blah….

But, it’s true…you are what you eat and drink. Plus, it’s a great place to start. You don’t have to change everything all at once!

Minor changes toward healthier food choices, along with cutting back on portion size, help you become mindful of what you put into your body. For starters, replace coffee and soda with water or flavored water. Then replace a few burgers and fries with salads during the week. You’ll notice you begin to feel better and you may even lose some weight….which will help reduce the stress on your back! (Here is a great article from Forbes.com)

Exercise.

Small changes add up to big rewards over time with exercise.

If you are currently inactive, start by taking short walks. Build from there and soon you’ll be on your way to longer distances and faster times.

Or, try Yoga…in your hot tub! It’s a great exercise which incorporates both physical movement and calming mindfulness. When you combine a hot tub and Yoga, it’s a win-win! Soaking in the hot tub will loosen your muscles making it easier to achieve the poses while the water provides both resistance and buoyancy.

Rest.

A good night’s sleep is essential for your entire well-being: body, mind, and spirit. With solid sleep you recharge, becoming physically and mentally able to face the challenges of each new day.
